As Summer starts to wind down and we approach Fall, the bald cypress are getting that last bit of trunk thickening in. In fact, I think that they thicken more at this time than in the spring. I grow all of my bald cypress with the pot submerged in water from March until late October/November and I think this helps. The new growth looks like this:
The new growth can be see as the tan colored "fissures" in the trunk. The trunk actually appears to be splitting. Late summer is also the time for that last push of root growth before winter sets in. This same tree has pushed itself up in the pot at least and inch since last month.
